KA3 |
| Maer Gymraeg yn Hawdd
Welsh is Easy! | Peter Ball |
Ten sessions of Welsh
language for beginners, emphasising the spoken language, as it is used in Wales today. The sessions
are scheduled for two hours, which will include about 30 minutes of light relief with music, video,
etc. on Welsh culture. This is to help us progress quickly enough to get a sense of achievement,
and still keep our motivation up. New members are welcome who have had introductory Welsh lessons.
The general approach will be based on the very successful Wlpan beginners' course
regularly run in Wales, which was derived from a system developed in Israel for teaching Hebrew to
immigrants. It involves plenty of activity, a lot of talking, and very little writing a
great deal of fun, in other words. Free material from BBC Wales and S4C (Channel 4 Wales) will also
be accessible. Peter from Bristol, studied in Hull and Belfast, before lecturing in
Uganda. In Tasmania he taught and researched at our Uni in social psychology, psycholinguistics and
related fields. His recreational interests include choral singing, art and studying languages. |

| Writers Group |
Marian Hearn |
| Class limit 15 . | |
It is perhaps a measure of
the success of the Writing Group that, since starting 8 years ago, 6 writers have independently
published books and 2 years ago the Group as a whole combined to produce a collection of their
work. However, this is a group where there is no pressure to actively participate at all. Members
are welcome to sit and listen until they feel confident to take part. The class usually starts
with an exercise to get the writing started then the results are shared sometimes thought
provoking and often hilarious! After a break for a cuppa there is a chance for those who wish to
share a little of their current personal writing true stories, fiction, and the occasional
prose or verse. By joining this course you will be encouraged to develop your own writing skills
and will gain knowledge and inspiration from the work of others. Old and new writers very
welcome. |

| History. Spawn of Satan. | Kate Steeden |
That was the Angevin reputation & Richard
was heard to joke that in that case no one should expect good behaviour from him! So why on earth
is he such a popular folk lore figure? In the whole of his reign he spent just 10 months in England
& boasted that he would sell London if only he could find a buyer. And did King John really
lose the family jewels in the wash? These matters & others are up for discussion and comment.
Kate has a love and knowledge of British History and the personality to bring it to life
for us today. |
